About Us
Bryan VanArsdale has been passionate about all things bicycle for just about as long as he can remember. If you ask me, it all began as a small child, riding around South Jersey on the back of his mom's bike. Throw in years of working as a bike messenger, a decade of honing his mechanical skills at the best shops in Philly, and top it all off with racing his bicycles around the U.S. and Europe and you pretty much have developed a fanatic. But what to do next?
Bryan long dreamed of opening his own business, one that incorporated his interest in bicycles, but also his love of art. Eureka! The idea for Philadelphia's first art gallery and bicycle shop was born. Bicycle Revolutions opened their doors on Earth Day (April 22) 2006, just a few months after the concept took root in Bryan's brain.
We pride ourselves on creating an unintimidating, pleasant experience for each person who walks through our door, be that a beginner or a lifelong rider. Our staff is knowledgeable, unpretentious, and friendly. We believe that the bikes are more than an economical, environmentally friendly source of transportation. They are functional works of art.
We carry a variety of brands and models of bicycles and frames as well as a staggering collection of parts and components to help you build the perfect customized ride. Come by to check out the great selection of urban, single-speed and track bikes and frames, or to ogle the rainbow assortment of parts and accessories.
We are proud to provide a venue for artists & artisans to showcase their work. We value being part of a community of people from all walks of life that share their creativity, stories, interests, and a few drinks from time-to-time. Sharing bicycles, art, and culture and their roles in our lives is an important part of who we are.
In June of 2009 we took on our 2nd largest endeavor to date and opened Bicycle Revolutions Boutique - right across the street! Not only did this give the original shop a little - much needed - room, but now we can showcase more bags, clothing, helmets, and a bunch of handmade goodies (stuff for kids, jewelry, cute little handsewn pouches, and lots of other great things). So come check that out at 711 South 4th Street.
